Three years ago I purchased property 15 minutes NW of Cochrane, AB, Canada - I was guided to build a chakra garden, learn about natural farming and provide a place of sanctity and healing for my clients and others who felt the need to come to the land. Little did I know that this commitment would grow in leaps and bounds to become a creative project that has evolved beyond my wildest dreams and expectation. Today the chakra garden is almost complete and has become a place for community, love, intention and is spiritually aligned with a vision of conservation, sustainability, resiliency and soulful healing. I feel this is especially important in Alberta, as this province is normally targeted as environmentally irresponsible and destructive by the international media, environmental activists and Hollywood. I love Alberta and want to show others that we are more than how the media paints us- that there are gems of HOPE in this province and there are many people that live here who care about Mother Earth.
As the construction and implementation of the Botanical Sanctuary has progressed the costs have escalated to the point that I need help with the final stage of realizing my vision. The garden has grown beyond my original intention of a small teaching garden for herbal medicine, Psycho spiritual plant Medicine and natural farming, to an additional conservation focus in partnership with United Plant Savers for preserving and propagating endangered/at risk medicinal plants in North America. It is the first botanical sanctuary of its kind in Alberta and there are only three others in Canada. The aim is not only to grow at risk plants but to also educate about those that are endangered, and encourage people to plant them in their gardens, for harvesting their own medicine versus wild harvesting and to discourage illegal harvesting. There are many ideas for implementing and a group of dedicated volunteers is finalizing the complete medicinal plant conservation plan with me within the next year.
